Controversial Viral Poster of Shirui Lily Festival 2022 is fake

Directorate of Tourism, Government of Manipur clarifies that the design related to the Shirui Lily Festival 2022 that became viral and controversial, was fake.
A press release from the tourism department Manipur stated that a fake poster of the upcoming Shirui Festival 2022 has been doing the round on social media platforms since May 2nd- creating controversy among many social media users. "The fake poster carries the logo of the Department of Tourism and mentioned the upcoming Shirui Festival with the image of the Hindu Deity Sri Krishna at the front and Shirui Flowers," said the release.
It further clarified that the circulated image was a fake and has not been issued by the Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur.
The department is yet to release any such poster with proper use of logos and images and appeals to the public to not circulate or upload fake posters.
The press release also stated that necessary action under the copyright 1957 shall be initiated for the circulation of fake posters under the name of the Shirui festival and the use of the department's logo.
"I am happy that the Government is yet to come up with an official design. I am hopeful that the Government is sensible enough to come up with a design that would be appreciated by all. Unfortunately, the "fake design" has been widely circulated and has done some damage. I suggest the Government let us know who did it and with what intention." said social activist Malem Ningthouja who have earlier counter the design as a manifestation of a chauvinistic mindset juggling with communal symbolism or simply a lack o sensitivity to the indigeneity of the festival as originated from Tangkhul but appropriated by the government in the name of emotional integrity.
