Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Thursday said fencing works of 40-km at the Manipur-Myanmar border has already started. “Insurgents come from outside the border, we need fencing and this issue has already discussed with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, fencing works of 40-km has already started and further 60-km will be taken up”, the Chief Minister said.
Further, he said “In my state, poppy cultivation and drug smuggling from the Myanmar border is taking place, so my immediate need is to give rehabilitation for the livelihood of poppy planters to stop such plantation”.
The Chief Minister was at Guwahati, Assam.
The DoNER Ministry had organised this 'North East Festival' as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from April 28 to May 4. The Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER) had organised a seven-day 'Valedictory Ceremony' with the spirit of "Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahi", and the intention to highlight the beauty of the North East and its achievements in various fields through the festival.
The event was attended by the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. BD Mishra, Governor of Manipur L.A. Ganesan, CM of Manipur N. Biren Singh, CM of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu, CM of Tripura Biplab Kumar Dev, CM of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio, Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for DoNER and Cooperation B.L. Verma, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Kumari Pratima Bhowmik, Union Minister of State for labour and employment Rameshwar Teli, Minister of Tourism of Mizoram Robert Romawia Royte and Minister of Tourism Sikkim B.S Panth.
