Hundreds of Students and Parents Stage Protest Movement against Shortages of Teachers in Poiroukhongjin High School

Thoubal, 28th April 2022: Hundreds of students and parents jointly organized a protest movement today on the Poiroukhongjin High School Campus in Imphal East under Andro A/C against the shortage of teaching staff and other infrastructures. They also sought the intervention of the concerned authority to look into the matter and feasibly arrange the shortages at the earliest.

A student from the protest stated that with such a large number of students present at the school, there should be at least 30 teachers. But the school has only 13 teaching staff. There is no teacher to teach Hindi, Science, and Arts at the primary level. The school faces a real hardship in conducting classes. He also asked the concerned authority to look into the matter and feasibly fulfill the shortages of teaching staff and other infrastructures.

Meanwhile, a person on behalf of the parents said that they admitted their children to Government schools hoping that they would save their earnings as government schools provide free books, uniforms, and a meal every day. It's more than two years since no classes are done due to Covid Pandemic. The school has 400 plus students from class I to Class X. However, it has only 14 teachers including the headmaster. Presently, the school has 4 Science Graduate Teachers, 2 Arts Graduate Teachers, 1 Hindi Graduate Teacher, 8 Primary teachers, and a Grade IV- altogether 16 staff in total. The school has no clerk, and the Hindi teacher hasn’t returned since he went for training. And another primary teacher went to another school under the policy of school amalgamation.

Besides, the school has poor sanitation, no drinking water facility, and many other inadequacies prevail in the school. At this, he asked the education minister and other concerned departments to visit the school and look after the shortages at the earliest.

The government promised to install a pucca fencing wall around the school install pucca fencing under the School Fagathansi Mission 2021 on 29th June. The SFM Team also promised to send the shortages of teaching staff. But no such promise has been made so far.
