Both Meiteis and Meitei Pangals are Working Hard as One to Preserve Manipuri Culture and Language in Bangladesh: Anwar Hossen
No language nor the Culture of Manipur will wither from the soil of Bangladesh since the Meiteis and Meitei Pangals from Manipuri are collectively working hard to preserve the rich culture and language of Manipur., said Md Anwar Hossen Babu Yumkhaibam.
He said the statement to the Thoubal District Working Journalist Union on their visit to Bangladesh p to trace the Blood Lines of the isolated Meitei and Meitei Pangals.
They also published a book called “Manipur Muslim” by Sazzadul Haque Swapan.
Anwar Hossen- General Secretary- Manipuri Muslim Samajkallyan Parishad said that the Meiteis and the Meitei Pangals used to live so deplorably and inferior 15/20 years back that they felt reluctant to identify themselves as Meitei or Meitei Pangal. They were shy even to converse in Manipuri. They had no famous personality to identify the community.
For these reasons, the people were afraid that the language and culture would fade away.
However, many of our own cracked Civil Services and joined Bangladesh Civil Service. And now, our sons, daughters, and others joined the administration. We feel it easy to identify ourselves now.
Now, they are happy and want to identify themselves as Meiteis or Meitei Pangals. And they can speak their language among the Bengali-speaking people. They also take part in each other’s festivals. And they strongly believe that the Meitei culture and language will survive under any condition.
The Meiteis and the Meitei Pangals have a strong bond of love and commitment. And no force can break this beautiful bond, said Anwar Hussen Babu. He also said that the idea of two different communities sprouted from Manipur. Or else communities felt the pain for each other here in Bangladesh.
While Md Abdul Matin Sajabam – Convenor, Manipuri Muslim Community of Bangladesh and President- Bangladesh Manipuri Muslim Education Trust, said that as per the stories told to them, the Meiteis and the Meitei Muslims have been settling here in Bangladesh for the last 200 years harmoniously. They love and care for each other. And this beautiful bond and understanding will last forever without a change.
He continued that the Meiteis and the Meitei Pangals have been working hard as one to avail the facilities and other opportunities provided by the Bangladesh Government. They also organize Meiteo Mayek Competition to help Manipuri Language flourish in the region. The Bangladesh Government is Mafam taking good care of them in a responsible way, added Abdul Matin. He also said to confide the people of Manipur that they are safe and happy out here in Bangladesh.
As per the Meitei people in the region, the two communities live harmoniously and co-operatively as one above religion and culture. They take part in each other’s festivals and other events. They even play Kang, a Manipuri Sport, together.
The Meitei and Meitei Pangal live in about 14 villages in Moulvi Bazar District. And Adampur Bazar is the largest village in the district. Here pure Manipuri language is practiced and spoken. Anwar Hussen built the guest house located in Adampur Bazar from his own pocket.
